Gallop continues; my version of agressive bankroll management

Yesterday gone for another gallop - after some good four hour 4-tabling was up A DOLLAR!!! Well, from other side it isn't so bad - in earning bonus points to clear my bonus had my best day [see the pic]. Today though broke the mark of three hundred - I really hope not to drop below it ever and ever and ever and ever.

Thus far so called "agressive bankroll management" works pretty fine: 70bb is what I consider a buy-in and am moving up when I have teh ten buy-ins for particular level. I know, I know... But I hate 10NL so much, I can't stand playing there.

For those ****** people, who thinks 27o is the weakest hand in poker

Just a little tired of this, cause lately heard this shit about four times. And this is a lot for a week [approximately].

On othar note: here's a place to laugh.

Tarping is fun

Wow, Tower's affiliate service is awesome - had problems with linkage and they were solved with ease thanks to lovely Laura - she is so nice I want to take her to the river for some beers.

About that live game I talked about - wasn't bad at all. But I just figured out, that this would be a bad idea to write here about hands and plays due to some people could use this against me in the future. Overall made JUST ONE huge mistake by being a payoff wizard to a tag player - sometimes we should pay attention to logic too, you know. And then there was a pretty well executed tarp, where valueshove worked perfectly and my turned trips got the right price from overpair. Overall +130bb.

WBCOOP: damn! I was supposed to win an X-Box!!! Bitch.

No. Don't get me wrong - WBCOOP ain't a bitch. Not me, either. Noone is a bitch. I just sometimes want to say that word. With expression.

So - WBCOOP. Went out just before second brake. 6xx-something. Damn! Even after ten hours I can't figure out, did I played wrong or not. As always, I kept myself in the middle of the pack waiti9ng for the moment, where half of people tend to be nervous. It comes about time, where blinds climb up to 200 or 300. Average stacks start to worry. They see "Wow, I am squeezed between stacks three times larger than me!" and start to make moves. At this time we don't need to make moves ourselves - just respond to other tries to steal chips.

...and it all happened.

Till my stupid mind decides to raise 2000 [300/600] in CO with AJ sooooted. Ok - it's not THAT bad move. It's standard. But then lose bigstack button reraises me to 5000. If I call - I have 6789.12 left. I call. Cause, you know - HE'S SOOO LOOOOOSE! Board comes Q high. I realize, that if I check, he will definetly put me all-in. So I push. That bastard calls with JJ and, with no help in turn and river, I am out.

And won the guy, who's blog I can't even read! Come on - what's up with that!!??!

That's why we all look at candy below and try to go on our lives.

HPP vs. OESD

About that question in previous post - it's total bullshit. Player with pocketpair will win 65% of the time, but OESD will see victory 35% of the time. Mystery solved.

So we will never know the truth, yes?

Guess so. Bill Rini in his blog published his latest Q&A with Tom Grant - the man, who accused Phil Laak in various crimes, including hiring the hitman for murder. No updates on this matter whatsoever - just short response, that all matters have been settled and Unabomber can walk free again. End of story. Shame.

More on poker: does really player with high pocket pair is 1:3 underdog to an open ended straight draw when there are two more cards to come? Must look it up - pretty interesting. [Oh my God - I am interested in odds and numbers! Help!]

Talking about help - this guy really needs help. Just hilarious video [again, thanks to Rini's post].

And just look at those legs:

Argue about Cash vs. Tournament

Very good post from Miami Don - one of the bloggers I read very regulary. Recently he posted very good written opinion about "Cash vs. Tournament poker" matter. He, of course, was on the cashgame's side and you just can't disagree with his thoughts. From other side, Chad from SNG Machine blog did the reply to Don's post defending tourneys and life within them.

After reading both posts I tend to agree with Don more. We have everyday needs and generally can't afford to wait for the big score [if we suggest, that poker is our everyday job]. And I don't think about just bread, water and rent - I talk new laptop, trip with family, clothes for kids... It's all about that. Tournament player wants to take big score after hundreds of bustouts. That's not gonna work. Let's imagine some predator out in the jungle, who eats only animals with, ummm... one eye. He will starve to death by the time he sees his dinner and then he will be so weak, he will not catch a shit.

Tournaments must be an addition to our lifes, not the main income. Ofcourse, I am not the one who could talk really, couse, as Otis said, "Ned Flanders thinks I am a pussy", but that's how it looks to me.

A little read and a little gamble

Well, yes. I am starting to believe, that learned to say "No" and quit, when even a little steam shows up.

Yesterday I started steming after very interesting hand. People involved was a passive rock in early position and super tilted guy on the button. I was in between.

The rock raises 2BB, what is uuuber fishy bet from him and I put him on AA or KK - momentarily. I really looking forward to outdraw him here and call with KQo. I am already considering, that tilty guy will call as well with any drawing hand like mine or worse.

So. The flop comes 2KQ with two diamonds. As I have one K, the board has another, by my reads, I put the raiser most likely to AA and his pot sized bet just shows it. I triple his bet in order so send tilted drawing hand go away. But instead - tilted one pushes. Rock calls. Now I have to call about the same amount I raised - a little bit more. With hopes, that my read about AA is right, I do that.

The turn and river are bricks. As I predicted - the tilty guy had JTo and didn't get anything. That rocky guy had KK.

Half of buy-in is gone and I am leaving the table.

----------------

On other news - yesterday told that I am quitting my job. It feels good.

About those passive rocks / poker table and how the freelance work sucks

Yesterday finally played a good two hour session [wasn't capable for more - this spring time always make me sleepy prety early] and pointed myself one strategy bullet, I will try out next couple days.

Almost at any table there is one Rocky Rockerson, who plays only AA,KK,QQ. He scary raises them preflop for about 3/3,5 BB. So, if he opens in early position and there is no or one caller, I will call almost with any 2-gapper. Of course, I will do that only if we both are pretty big stacked and there are no some kind of maniac between us. The thing is, that if there comes a good flop for me, or scary flop for him, he just might throw his overpair away.

Of course, this is not a strategy against every bigstack or multiway pot - in that case it will just destroy you bankroll.

On other news: I guess I'm getting more disciplined. Step by step.

p.s. I will make myself a poker table. A round one - we don't need that casino monster at home. It will come from that freelance work money I mentioned earlier. ...but it's pain in the ass. Slowly, from good design of a pretty webpage, thanx to clients wishies, I am making picture, I will not call mine. Of course, I'm trying to argue [softly] with them, but there is just too much bad ideas, they want to see.

Sloughter at the table [good one, blje]

Hi kids! Today I will tell you "How to get sloughtered at the table"!

First thing You want to do, is double up in the first hand. Then, my little friend, You want to see another your friend to double up in a first hand.

Then wait about two hands.

Then, my little bitch or my little motherfucker, you want to raise in position with Ace Queen sooooted. You HAVE TO get the double-up-boy to call you and must to get two queens and a deuce on the flop. You, being super smart, check the rainbowed flop and see unmeaningful turn.

And the betting goes!

One big pot, you know. Who, THE FUCK, could know, that he had pocket deuces?

OK, my little friend - down a buyin in a first orbit is not so bad! Don't cry, my little baby!

ALL YOU HAVE TO DO is to get pocket kings in the next two hands and flush down another two buyins thanx to opponents rivered straight to AK and set of tens.

AND NOW - go and join some mazochist club, couse that's where you belong!

Did you get it, my little friend? Yes? Shove off then.

Regularity of playing / new Full Tilt ads

Just don't know, is it good or bad. I am talking not about "every day regularity", or even "five days out of seven regularity". I am talking two days in a week. From one point of view, it makes me pretty rusty and uncomfortable for at least first 50 hands. And, as we all have heard, many players insist on playing every day. And there's a very logical reason to this - more hands/more play/more experience.

From other side of things - after I made myself a law, that I'll play only rested and undisturbed [witch led to conclusion, that I can afford to play only twice a week] - my poker sessions started to mean more and make more sence game wise. I am preparing for a session and, even it goes bad, I know exactly why I lost this or that.

I am starting to believe, that everyday poker [don't get me started on multi tabling] isn't the real game anymore, but only substitute to another reflective action - an action the most poker players believe to run away from. A little dillemma. A little.

But maybe I'm writing this, couse I haven't played for three days and can't wait tomorow.

On other news, PokerOnAMac had posted brand new FT television ad. Didn't like most of them, if honest. But still - it's very nice to see, that FT taking a step in education about poker being game of skill, not luck.

QJ bet

Just watching "Live At The Bike".

people said, that raise with QJ is "no-brainer". Don't know... really...

February 12, 2007

Even in perfect played hand you loose money.

I will not cry over bad beat or anything. Yesterday played a lot of poker. Lost two big hands [really really big].

1. I was pretty agressive at my table and lately had shown too much agression with just top pair - showed cards after everybody folded. I showed those only 'couse everybody else played TPNK like those were the nuts. Now I see KQp under the gun and limp. And rock to my left limps, too. As well as SB and BB. Flop comes Kxx, no flush or straight whatsoever. As my rocky neighbour limped, I am sure, he have something like I do. KQs, KJs, KT. Well, as I've been very agressive lately and know, that he definetly noticed this, I decide to trap him in some sort of way. Blinds check, I check, he, as suspected, bets 10BB. Blinds fold, I, after "thought", call. Another rag on the turn. He bets 20BB. I am SURE, he have K and, in the worst case, we are splitting. I take my time and call. The river brings J. I bet 15BB. He calls. He spiked two pair on the river with KJ.

I thinh this hand, considering my table image and previous actions against other opponents at the table, was one of the best I played. Too bad the ending was not on my side, but realising, that I played correct, really softens the pain of loss.

2. Super loose super agressive player. Wanted to push him off and instead doubled him up. Stupid play what I do, when feeling unbeatable. Oh well. That's... stupidity.

Blog space, poker styles and random shit

Wow. Now my RSS reader is ready to blow up. There are so many feeds in, that I need really good time to find and read the goodies. To bad, I haven't that at work - I could kill some hour while waiting the end of a day.

So. Nothing new at my side, apart of weird seven bucks I earned last sunday. RakeBrain says that. Personally I don't remember I have played a hand that day. Oh well.

AApoker made a really good article about basics of the player styles.

Half of the blog's titles today sound something like "Happy Hammer Day!" and everybody talks about their finishing place in HammerDay tourney at FT. Nada interesting.

In some older news: Saga of Jamie Gold and Crispin Something Layser is over. yeah... I know what you thinking - so what?! Exactly, hah!

I guess today is the day to watch some Monty Python! "Shut up you silly bitch" and shit...

January 18, 2007

Sometimes we must let it go...

Ok. NL 25$.

I am on the button with QQ and after two limpers bump it up to 1.25$. Blinds, who are tight and decent players call, as well as two middle position limpers, who are marked as loose, very loose players who will go till the end with TopPairNoDamnKicker.

Flop comes J 9 6 two clubs.

Everybody checks to me and I decide to take the pot right here with 2$ bet. Blinds fold. First green limper calls [hmmmm....] second limper goes all-in with 10$. SHIT!!!

My first thought is AJ for him, but then, suddenly, only thing I see is a set for him. I have him covered, but I decide, that my queens are no good here. I fold. Wow - the first green limper goes all-in, too!

I am pretty happy, that I folded my overpair. I am happy for about ten seconds. Those guys went in with all their money with straight draws. Won the first guy, who made pair of tens on the river. So - yes - I let go pretty big pot there. But I still haven't figured, was my folding wrong. I guess that was a right move.

Money as a tool of poker

About stooopid things I did recently:

Number 1: have you heard about not bluffing a calling station? Sure you have. I thought that way too. Why didn't I act accordingly? In fact I often don't act with my previous reads [notes] in mind. Costly. Very costly.
Number 2: was I glad to see, I have comments on my page! But what I didn't see, that I was turned on "comment moderation" in blog's settings. Aghhh. Thanks for support! Thank You and Thank You!

Money as tool.

I am a poor bastard, banks hate me and, even that I am what I am, I have a pretty dead-end job, I am glad to realize, that I have never considered my bankroll money as money I can spend. Today I was down two buy-ins, but menaged to get it all back and even earn something, but not for a split of a second I thought about those dollars as money I could buy some big piece of meat with - today, tomorrow and day after that. I think that's good.

On upcomig review:

Today saw that movie. Review will not be a pleasant one. Coming up in about 12 hours :]

To Limp or not to limp?

As it's said in that legendary movie: "You can't loose what you don't put in the middle, but you can't win much either". Egh. It's true, you know.

OK, after big bustout I made my current roll from 8$, but still, overall, I am not a winning player. So there are leaks to be plugged. After yesterday's session there was a disapointment - it seems I've lost my agression somewhere. I don't even 3bet often. Just minraise.. minraise... I believe, that this is a main reason, I sometimes experience too many suckouts against me.

Ferguson, don't remember where, once said, that he strongly believes, that limping in is a bad play - he tries to come in the game always with the same raise - either he's holding AA or 97soooted. There are moments I want to enduce that play in me, but when it comes to one gap connectors I often just don't want to put such money in for those cards. Even with my most favorite hand of all times - QT. Gotta work on that...

Second thing - continuation bets. Weeeee, they give me trouble. Like mighty Matusows speach in HSP about getting out of the bluff - it's difficult. Specially on the flop.

p.s. review is coming up this weekend.
